2011…What a year!
Well, we have had quite a year at The Silver Apples. In the spring of this year we sold our little place on Burton Road and decided to concentrate on what we were really enjoying; providing catering and event organising for clients with our own unique, vintage twist. So, we set about on the transition and had our beautiful website designed (www.wearelife.com) and got our lovely little van branded (Greg@Cactus Designs) and on the road, ready for action!
We have been overwhelmed with the response, support and work that we have had in the short six months since we left Burton Road. We are branching out into all of the areas that we hoped to; Wedding, Corporate, Film & Production, supplying lots of lovely little independents and more. This has allowed us to build up some fantastic relationships with clients which is enabling us to grow further through repeat business and recommendations to others.
We are also still massively enjoying the very thing that started off Silver Apples years ago, market trading. We are at the Altrincham Vintage Fair every month and have witnessed this event transforming the very heart of a town centre that was losing its focus on local shopping and support of independents. We love doing this market and couldn’t be happier to be part of such a positive thing- it now boasts nearly seventy stalls each month!
We have also had some lovely press coverage of our new direction and couldn’t have been happier when The Sunday Times used us as a business focus in their article on pop-up business culture. It really did examine and support the reasons why many small businesses are struggling in the current climate and why leaving bricks and mortar (and landlords rent!) and taking a business to the road can be a great alternative, something we now do every day, and love.
We have been part of some fantastic community events this year as well. In particular the wonderful South Manchester Classic Car Show (absolutely stunning cars and our lovely little pop-up vintage tea room) and CavFest (www.cavfest.org.uk) which was an absolutely lovely day at local primary Cavendish-tonnes of music, cake, hot dogs and happy people! All of these events allowed us to showcase what we have to offer and are vital for independents who don’t have shop front contact with their customers.
Finally, it has been wonderful to be part of so many clients special occasions/big days/conferences/training days/film shoots and more and cannot wait to see what 2012 has in store for us!
